Norway mass murderer claims prison guards driving him to insanity

OSLO - Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik accused prison officers of trying to drive him to suicide in conditions he describes as "a mini Abu Ghraib."

Breivik wrote a 27-page letter addressed to prison officials, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press on Friday.

"If it wasn't for the fact that I am an exceptionally patient person, I would most likely have lost my mind in pure frustration," Breivik said in the letter dated Oct. 15 that was updated on Oct. 26 and Oct. 30. "Anyway, there are limits to what a person can take."

Breivik wrote that he is frustrated that guards do not co-operate with his carefully planned daily schedule, where he times his various activities down to the minute.

"One cannot exclude that Ila Prison's leadership has assured itself that 'loyal social democrats' dominate the ward to prevent possibly benevolent people gaining access," Breivik said. He also alleges that the prison director keeps the security regime tight out of personal vengefulness against Breivik.

The 33-year-old right-wing fanatic killed 77 people in twin attacks last year in Norway's worst peacetime massacre. He detonated a car bomb outside government offices in Oslo killing eight people and then drove to the island of Utoya where he massacred 69 in a shooting spree at the summer camp of the governing Labor Party's youth wing.

Ellen Bjercke, spokeswoman at Ila Prison where Breivik is being held, said the prison had not lifted any security restrictions on Breivik in response to his letter, although he had recently been allowed a normal pen instead of a rubber safety pen, which he had also avidly used during the 10-week trial to make notes.

Breivik said the experience of having to use the stab-free pen was as "an almost indescribable manifestation of sadism."

The self-confessed killer described numerous prison practices as "degrading" in his letter, including that he is watched when swallowing his vitamin pills, that he's not allowed a mop to clean his cell and that he is subjected to daily strip searches, sometimes by female prison guards.

Keeping up his personal hygiene is also a challenge, he said.

"Use of a toothbrush and electric shaver is always under supervision. One is therefore under mental pressure to finish quickly as the guards are tapping their feet outside the cell ... This limits brushing to once a day and shaving to once a week in order not to have to go through the mental ordeal more often than necessary," he wrote in the letter.

"Therefore there is the likelihood that Norway's own 'mini Abu Ghraib,' in the cellars of Ila Prison, are being kept a secret and that Norway's human rights ambassadors' work to spread the 'world's most humane principles' are avoiding being embarrassed."

Breivik was referring to a prison in Iraq that became notorious in 2004, when photos were released of detainees being abused by U.S. soldiers.

In a handwritten note sent with the 27-page typewritten letter, Breivik said he had sent copies of it to the AP, the International Press Center in Oslo, select Norwegian media and Amnesty International.

Bjercke said that Breivik was given an electric typewriter earlier this month but that it was not connected to his letter of complaint.

During his pre-trial detention he was allowed a computer that could not be connected to the Internet, but it was taken away from him when he started serving his sentence.

The Oslo District Court found Breivik guilty of terrorism and premeditated murder for the July 22, 2011 attacks. He was given a 21-year prison sentence that can be extended if he's considered a threat.

The self-styled anti-Muslim militant denied criminal guilt, saying he's a commander of a resistance movement aiming to overthrow European governments and replace them with "patriotic" regimes that will deport Muslim immigrants. Police said they found no evidence of Breivik belonging to any such group.

lelioas Site - Audio Streaming and the Top 5 Donts For Business ...

Audio streaming can allow you to provide a personal touch to your sales letter for visitors. It can add that voice of reason, compassion and opportunity that simple words on a screen just can?t do.The truth is many of your online visitors will scan your presentation. They will gravitate toward bullet points and only read what seems most important. Are you afraid customers might miss something? You can embed an mp3 audio file into your sales page that can help customers catch the most important parts and they are delivered in a way that only you can.Of course you can always hire a professional to voice the project for you. Sites like voices and voice123 as well as RadioDaddy have been used to successfully gain this type of audio from a professional voice talent. The good news is you can also do it yourself. You can purchase a USB linked microphone for less than $40 and use a simple mp3 audio file. A quick search engine visit should bring several free recording software alternatives for you to consider. You may also be able to find a secondary host for your mp3 file and then embed the visible link in your sales page. This can be a quick and inexpensive way to make your audio stream possible. Most online business owners only think of audio streaming as either podcasts or Internet radio. Some have not even thought of the potential for audio streaming in a business environment.Yes, there are businesses that are developing podcasts ? and they are gaining a following as they offer quality infotainment. They mix a little important stuff with a few fun items and the listener is often left encouraged to come back again next time.Let me write just a bit about a few things you don?t want to do when you decide to provide an audio stream of your sales pitch.1. Do not attempt to ?wing it? unless you are exceptionally good. Script your approach and read it out loud (and often) before attempting to record.2. Do not try to make your sales pitch hard sell. It?s a simple back click for the visitor and they aren?t afraid to use it.3. Do not come across as dull and unenthusiastic. Ask a trusted friend or family member to evaluate the presentation. If you?re first read is boring it?s time to rerecord. Try some coffee before you read again and smile when you talk.4. Do not read the entire sales letter. Prioritize what?s important and include a call to action. Remember your visitor will often scan for what they feel is most important. If you read it all they will likely get bored. Make liberal use of your bullet points and minimize any verbal expansion on those subjects.5. Do not apologize for what you may feel is inexperience with audio streaming. If you bring this up you are unintentionally saying, ?I don?t know what I?m doing ? don?t trust me.?Audio streaming has a growing place within online business. The cost to get started is minimal and it could transmit to a very lucrative conversion rate.

Congo rebels advance as regional leaders seek cease-fire

The war continues to expand in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with rebels vowing to extend the gains they've made in the east of the country as more civilians are forced to flee their homes.

By Max Delany,?Correspondent / November 23, 2012

Refugees flee the town of Sake in Congo after the government failed to liberate the town from the M23 rebel movement.

As regional leaders talked peace in plush hotel rooms a country away, fighting between rebels and government troops in the Democratic Republic of Congo's east rumbled on.

On Friday, civilians carrying meager bundles of their belongings continued to stream out of the town of Sake a day after the Congolese national Army and an allied local militia tried ? and failed ? to retake the town from the M23 rebels.

Where those fleeing can go is unclear. Already tens of thousands of people displaced by the swirl of fighting are struggling to survive in makeshift camps studding the stony countryside.

The rebels pushed on with their offensive, capturing towns and villages around the regional capital Goma ? which they have controlled without challenge since seizing it from Congo's ragtag military on Tuesday. Buoyed by their victory the rebels said they were going much farther ? Congo's capital Kinshasa, a thousand miles to the west.

The continuing advance comes despite a flurry of diplomatic efforts to end the fighting.

As Goma fell, the three men who are widely seen as having played a central role in creating the conflict ? and could play the key role to end it ? met for talks at a luxury hotel on the shores of lake Victoria outside Uganda's capital Kampala.

On the one side was Congo's beleaguered president Joseph Kabila ? who had just seen his army melt away and angry protestors torch his party offices in several cities. On the other side was Rwandan President Paul Kagame ? the man whose own defense minister is in de facto command of the M23 rebels, according to the UN and Congo.

And somewhere in the middle was Uganda's wily leader Yoweri Museveni, a compromised mediator given that some senior Ugandan officials, including Mr. Museveni's own younger brother, have been accused by the UN of supporting the rebels.

Backing DRC?

At a hastily convened press conference on Wednesday the three presidents, looking weary after hours of talks, demanded the rebels stop fighting and pull out of Goma, while Museveni and President Kagame said they could not ?entertain the idea of overthrowing the legitimate government of the DRC or undermining its authority.?

"Wherever they [M23] are we shall tell them to go back. The region is saying to them to go back ... and I can assure you they will go back," Museveni said.

For its part, the government of Congo said it would ?look expeditiously into the causes of [the rebels'] discontent and address them as best as it can.? Mr. Kabila was noncommittal when asked about the possibility of direct negotiations ? the rebels' major demand.

While the presidents seemed confident about stopping the violence, no one seemed to have told the rebels to stop fighting. Rebel leaders said they would not be withdrawing from Goma any time soon.

Museveni reportedly sent a chopper down to the Congo border on Thursday to spirit M23's political chief to Kampala for talks, and Kagame and Kabila are expected back in town over the weekend.

But whether Kabila will agree to negotiate face-to-face with the rebels remains the big question, say analysts.

?Given that the FARDC [Congo's Army] is not strong enough to defeat M23 it's not clear that he is in a position to block such an agreement. It may be his only choice,? says Laura Seay, a regional expert at Morehouse College in the US. ?That said, Kabila only wants to deal with Rwanda, not the M23, as he sees Kigali as the source of M23's strength.?

And despite intense international pressure to find a solution, both sides remain far apart.

?It's hard to see what a negotiated solution would look like at this stage,? Ms. Seay says

A Dream Within Eden

A Dream Within Eden Roleplay

I am currently looking for two slots to be filled, and once all profiles are done, I plan on getting it started. The Following are the two characters I need filled.

Lazarus, The King of Eden: Now the leader of the City of Eden as well as complete control of the Underground City. His military patrols the Underground City and it's factories to ensure that the people continue to work in peace, and put down any dissenters. As a political tool, he sends two platoons of soldiers out without knowledge of each other, and gives them orders to shoot anyone they see on sight. One platoon is defeated and killed, and Lazarus blames it on the scavengers outside. When he was younger, since his father refused to allow him to marry or have an heir, when Lazarus fell in love with Annabel, he was sent into the army. (The City in the Sea)

Master Eldorado: Is an old scholar who travelled with the original people that founded Eden. There he finds the old books pertaining to how the city originally was. He is strong in his belief that it can be restored back and searches for someone that can do just that. He lives in Eden where he continues to study and teach about the history. He lives alone, sacrificing his own love life to see the city shine like it once had. He taught Leonard and Lenore hoping that they would be the ones to do just that. Now he works with the Lenore, Annabel, and others to try and get rid of Lazarus. He holds onto a book that is forbidden to anyone. He keeps it hidden in a small library that he keeps hidden away from everyone. No one, not even the people who was with him at the time Eden was found, knows about it. (Eldarado)

The characters are based on Edgar Allan Poe's poems. The titles of the poems are at the end of each small character Bio. Keep in mind these are just a basic outline of the character, and you will be the one to design the character as you see fit, as long as they match the small bios.

There are a total of 12 set characters, so having more characters may add some stress to the plot, but I am willing to discuss this and work it out if I think you have an intriguing character idea and how they can fit in.

I am not using the Edgar Allan Poe's stories to base characters, as some of his stories are a tad long, so instead some plots of his stories may be included along the story line. How that will work.. Well they will be used as twists to the story. You CAN however also use his stories as a background/history if you so wish. I will not limit the character design to strictly the poems, but as long as the character fits with the plot and story, I will be more likely to accept them. (again this will need to be discussed with me first.)

I would very much prefer that these two slots be filled first before I even consider other character ideas.

Egypt's Morsi grants himself far-reaching powers

CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's president on Thursday issued constitutional amendments that placed him above judicial oversight and ordered the retrial of Hosni Mubarak for the killing of protesters in last year's uprising.

Mohammed Morsi also decreed immunity for the Islamist-dominated panel drafting a new constitution from any possible court decisions to dissolve it, a threat that had been hanging over the controversial assembly.

Liberal and Christian members withdrew from the assembly during the past week to protest what they say is the hijacking of the process by Morsi's allies, who they saw are trying to push through a document that will have an Islamist slant marginalizing women and minority Christians and infringing on personal liberties. Several courts have been looking into cases demanding the dissolution of the panel.

The Egyptian leader also decreed that all decisions he has made since taking office in June and until a new constitution is adopted and a new parliament is elected ? which is not expected before next spring ? are not subject to appeal in court or by any other authority. He also barred any court from dissolving the Islamist-led upper house of parliament, a largely toothless body that has also faced court cases.

The moves effectively remove any oversight on Morsi, the longtime Muslim Brotherhood figure who became Egypt's first freely elected president last summer after the Feb. 11, 2011 fall of autocrat Hosni Mubarak. They come as Morsi is riding high on lavish praise from President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for mediating an end to eight days of fighting between Israel and Gaza's Hamas rulers.

Morsi not only holds executive power, he also has legislative authority after a previous court ruling just before he took office on June 30 dissolved the powerful lower house of parliament, which was led by the Brotherhood. With two branches of power in his hands, Morsi has had repeated frictions with the third, the judiciary, over recent months.

"Morsi today usurped all state powers & appointed himself Egypt's new pharaoh," pro-reform leader Mohamed ElBaradei wrote on his Twitter account. "A major blow to the revolution that could have dire consequences."

The president made most of the changes Thursday by issuing a declaration amending what has become a patchwork interim constitution in effect since Mubarak's fall. The military, which took power after Mubarak, set the precedent for the executive unilaterally issuing constitutional changes, which it did several times during its 16-month rule.

Morsi on Thursday extended by two months the deadline for the assembly to produce a draft for a new constitution, apparently to give members more time to iron out their differences.

The moves are likely to fuel growing public criticism that Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood have monopolized power while doing little to tackle the country's endemic woes. Thousands of demonstrators gathered in downtown Cairo for the fourth day running to protest against Morsi's policies and criticize the Muslim Brotherhood, the fundamentalist group from which the Egyptian leader hails.

The decree for a retrial of Mubarak appeared aimed at making a gesture to the public. The decree called for "new investigations and trials" against those who held "political or executive" positions in the old regime and who are accused of killing protesters.

Mubarak was convicted in June to life in prison for failing to stop the killing of protesters during last year's uprising against his rule, but many Egyptians were angered that he wasn't convicted of actually ordering the crackdown and that his security chief, Habib el-Adly, was not sentenced to death. Several top police commanders were acquitted, and Mubarak and his sons were found not guilty of corruption charges.

But the decree would not mean retrials for the dozens of lower-level police officers who have been acquitted or received suspended sentences in trials for killing protesters ? verdicts that have outraged many Egyptians.

That exclusion will guarantee Morsi the loyalty of the powerful but hated police force which had abandoned the streets for more than a year after Mubarak's ouster by a popular uprising motivated in large part by the human rights violations of the police and the notorious security services.

Morsi on Thursday also fired the country's top prosecutor, Abdel-Maguid Mahmoud, who has been in the job since 2006. A Mubarak-era appointee, Mahmoud has faced widespread accusations that his office did a shoddy job collecting evidence against Mubarak, el-Adly and the police commanders.

Morsi first fired Mahmoud in October but had to rescind his decision when he found that the powers of his office do not empower him to do so. So on Thursday, he decreed that the prosecutor general could serve in office only for four years, with immediate effect. Morsi replaced Mahmoud with Talaat Abdullah, a career judge.

Shortly before Morsi's decisions were announced, hundreds of Morsi supporters gathered outside Mahmoud's office chanting slogans against him and demanding the "cleansing of the judiciary."

Thursday's decisions were read on state television by Morsi's spokesman, Yasser Ali. In a throwback to the days of the authoritarian Mubarak and his predecessor Anwar Sadat and Gamal Abdel-Nasser, the television followed up with a slew of nationalist songs. The introductions of the decrees declared that they were designed to "protect" the revolution and dismantle the old regime, a nod to the revolutionaries who have long complained that not enough was being done to reform the country after Mubarak's 29-year rule.

Morsi narrowly won the presidency ? about 52 percent of the vote ? to become Egypt's first freely elected and civilian president, ending nearly six decades of de facto military rule.
