Rdio for Android updated with bug fixes and stability improvements

Rdio As much as I love using Rdio for my music, their Android app has become a small pain in my side. It seems as though everyday brings a new build and often times creates more bugs then it fixes. With that out of the way, I still think it's a great service and the latest update to the app does note bug fixes and stability improvements namely, the player freezing which was a huge issue on the last build. If you're using Rdio and have experienced issues with crashes or the player freezing, give the latest build a go as it is now available for download from the Google Play Store.

How to mirror iphone on monitor to demo mvc4 mobile app?

Thank you for the links.? All of these are good for testing.? I really like and use electricplum.? But...these don't actually mirror my IPhone on my computer monitor so I can demo how to set up the bookmark, add to the home screen, etc.

I ended up just Jailbreaking my IPhone and using iDemo with the Cydia ScreenSpltr app. Total Cost $17.00 for iDemo.

I initially researched some products called Reflection and AirServer, but they required that I use AirPlay (which I believe required me to purchase an Apple TV, and then to purchase Reflection or AirServer).? Total Cost over $100.

Many thanks for the links.

How the Body's Metabolism Adapts to Dieting and Weight Loss

?I?ve wrestled long and hard trying to decide how to rank the importance of the following information. I didn?t come to a thorough understanding of Metabolic Adaptations until the year 2000. In short, Metabolic Adaptations are changes that occur in the body in response to food availability and bodyweight changes. Metabolic Adaptations change metabolism, the way the body uses calories. The amount of changes in body composition determines the extent of Metabolic Adaptations.

My experiences led me to think that Metabolic Adaptations might be the most important factor in solving problems in weight loss and weight control. I found it difficult, though, to accept that idea. I?d placed so much emphasis on the primary importance of the Energy Balance Equation that I figured nothing would control it.

I thought about my dilemma for several months.

Then, it finally struck me that these two seemingly independent issues ? the Energy Balance Equation and Metabolic Adaptations ? were, in fact, unified. They were not, in any sense, independent of one another. Metabolic Adaptations are, simply, adaptations that happen within and as a part of the Energy Balance Equation.

I directly experienced the effects of Metabolic Adaptations during my overfeeding and underfeeding studies. When I was younger I reached a personal high bodyweight of 265 pounds. Here, I found it impossible to consume enough food to maintain that ponderous body mass. In another experiment to decrease bodyweight, I reached 165 pounds. Here, I found it just as impossible to maintain that personal low bodyweight.

At a bodyweight of 165 pounds, I ate sparingly. This was sharply in contrast with the 10,000 calories a day that I?d consumed at 265 pounds. Throughout the following decades, I always found it rather easy to maintain a bodyweight of 220 pounds. I ?settled? easily into this weight while consuming an amount of food that was satisfying. I was fatter at 220 pounds, though, than I wanted to be. So, I would reduce my food intake to lose some fat. Every time I tried to push my weight to a lower level, I required an ever-lower level of calories to reach my goal. That fact was indisputable.

This observation made me question the simplistic calculations used by nutrition experts in weight loss programs. They first measure the subject?s bodyweight, then they calculate his calorie needs based on standardized tables. They use the Body Mass Index (BMI) or measure the subject?s body composition to figure out his ideal bodyweight and then calculate the number of calories the subject needs to eat to reduce to a new lower bodyweight. They use the assumption that each pound of fat contains 3,500 calories.

They make no provision for the fact that a portion of the lost bodyweight will include a loss of Lean Body Mass (muscles and organs).

And, they make no provision, in short, for the Metabolic Adaptations I?m about to describe.

This time-worn procedure is overly simplistic. It?s doomed to fail because the nutritionist makes no provision for the fact that, as one sheds pounds, Metabolic Adaptations occur. These Adaptations lead to fewer pounds lost at the same calorie intake. In other words, one loses weight (and fat) faster the fatter one is. As one becomes ?leaner,? this process changes dramatically. For example, let?s say we reduce one?s calorie intake by 1,000 calories a day. Over time, this reduced calorie intake will fail to stimulate the same rate of bodyweight loss as it did at the start of the diet.

Again, a decrease in calorie intake below energy needs results in more weight loss the fatter one is. It also leads to more fat loss. As the diet proceeds and bodyweight decreases, the rate of bodyweight loss will slow or even stop. It?s very important that this fundamental fact is understood!

It?s assumed that each pound of fat is worth 3,500 calories, as I?ve said. Under this assumption, a decrease in daily calorie intake of 500 would, theoretically, lead to a loss of one pound per week. That?s because 7 days times 500 calories a day equals 3,500 calories, the assumed energy content of one pound of fat. One could also accomplish the same effect by burning 500 more calories a day.

By following such a program for 12 weeks, the calculation predicts that the bodyweight loss will be 12 pounds. This is how the weight loss ?experts? calculate potential losses. Further, everyone assumes that the bodyweight loss is composed solely of fat. This is a monumentally mistaken assumption!

What are the two mistaken assumptions? First, that calorie restriction leads to a continuous, steady loss of bodyweight for a given amount of calorie reduction. And second, that the lost bodyweight is composed entirely of fat tissue. Both assumptions are wrong

PST: Croatia can't rest on its laurels

source:

Man of the Match: Amid a number of standout performances from Croatia going forward, Mario Mandzukic?s will stand out. Goals tend to create that kind of effect. The Wolfsburg attacker scored in the third minute, his header finding the right post as Shay Given?s feet couldn?t get traction on the wet surface. To start the second half, Mandzukic pulled the same trick, heading to that same right post to give Croatia a two-goal lead.

NBC Sports: Croatia beats Ireland 3-1 at Euro 2012

Packaged for takeaway:

  • Ruining his day, Mandzukic had to be helped off the field late, hobbling after contesting an aerial challenge with Ireland defender Sean St. Ledger.
  • Mandzukic wasn?t the only Croatian attacker who stood out. In fact, they all did. Nikica Jelavic poached a goal and contributed with some good hold up and distribution. Ivan Perisic was a dynamo coming onto his right foot. Ivan Rakitic provided some fine service from the right. Luka Modric dictated the game?s tempo, particularly after Croatia took their second lead. Darijo Srna and Ivan Strinic provided support from their full back positions.
  • Srna starting at right back was a bit of a surprise. Croatia?s captain usually plays right back for Shakhtar Donetsk but is usually in midfield for Croatia. Today, he started in defense, with right midfielder Ivan Rakitic a mild surprise in front of him. Bilic put the duo out there with the idea that Rakitic could cut in, free up the flank for Srna, who could bomb forward having pushed another dangerman into the box. It was a tactic that worked well.
  • But while Slaven Bilic can be reassured by his attack, his central defense was terrible. Vedran Corluka was solely responsible for the goal, giving away a soft foul that set up a set piece converted by St. Ledger (who Corluka was supposed to be marking). Gordon Schildenfeld was inconsistent challenging in the air against a team without a big target man, and as Ireland pumped cross after cross into the box over the match?s last 20 minutes, the Eintract Frankfurt man was nowhere to be found. Croatia have to get better play from their center halves if they?re going to challenge Spain and Italy.
  • Ireland only allowed seven goals in qualifying, so to open Euro 2012 by allowing three in 48 minutes will be big shock.
  • The first two goals came on the second ball in after a corner kick. It?s one of the most difficult and chaotic plays to defend in the game, but it?s also something every team works on at all levels. Giovanni Trapattoni will ask why Mandzukic and Jelavic were so open for their goals.
  • On the final goal, Mandzukic simply won a ball in the air and converted. Coming into the game, Trapattoni would have thought that was a strength of his defense. Thankfully, neither Spain nor Italy are as likely to test his center halves in the air as much as Croatia did today.
  • Going forward, all Ireland could offer (before Croatia employed soccer?s version of the prevent defense) was playing long to Kevin Doyle and hope he can draw a foul. It?s how they scored their first half equalizer, and getting nothing from Aiden McGeady and Damien Duff wide, it was their only hope of finding a second.
  • Still, Trapattoni took Doyle off early in the second half, electing to bring on John Walters (who was never heard from again).
  • Strangely (considering the result), Ireland seems a little better situated for the rest of Group C. If their main problem on Sunday was defending balls in the air, they?re likely to see far fewer against Spain and Italy, who also won?t have Jelavic and Mandzukic to target.
  • Croatia, however, will face two teams that are far more adept at exploiting those central defenders, particularly with the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Xavi Hernandez pulling the strings in midfield.
  • Croatia may sit on top of their group, but if I?m Slaven Bilic, I?m not getting much sleep tonight. I have to figure out if Corluka and Schildenfeld are my best pair going forward or if I need to dust off Josip Simunic or press Domagoj Vida into action. That means watching this game over and over until I?m ready for the team?s next training session.

Facebook's growth rate is slowing: WSJ

(AP) ? Facebook's growth appears to be slowing, particularly in the U.S., according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Unique U.S. visitors to the wildly popular social media site rose 5 percent in April to 158 million, according to data attributed to comScore. ComScore confirmed the data.

That's the slowest growth rate since comScore started tracking data in 2008.

Users spent more than six hours a month on the site in April, up 16 percent from the prior year. Still, that's a slower growth rate than the 23 percent increase in 2011, according to comScore data cited in the report.

Facebook went public on May 18 in a widely anticipated market debut. But the stock price has slid since then. Facebook's stock was up about 2 percent to $27.65 on Monday afternoon.

Investors are concerned about Facebook's ability to keep increasing revenue and make money from its growing mobile audience. Meanwhile, many analysts hold positive long-term ratings on the stock.

The company has been rolling out new offerings for mobile users, including apps for taking photos, messaging and for managing business brand pages.

It is also unveiling an app center to allow users to find Facebook-related games and other applications more easily.

Facebook Inc., based in Menlo Park, California, has nearly a billion users worldwide.

On Tuesday, comScore will publish a report measuring the effectiveness of advertising on Facebook. The report, previewed on a comScore blog post last week, also looks at other things brands do to promote themselves on Facebook beyond paid advertising. Such "earned media" can include Facebook users sharing a post about the brand.

(AP) ? Activists are reporting that Syrian troops and helicopters are clashing with rebels in the central town of Rastan.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees are also reporting government shelling Monday in the central provinces of Homs and Hama, the southern region of Daraa, the northern province of Aleppo, suburbs of the capital Damascus and Deir el-Zour in the east.

The Observatory said government forces used helicopters in their attacks on Rastan, which is held by the rebels.

Violence has intensified recently despite that an internationally-brokered cease-fire went into effect on April 12. The truce was repeatedly violated.

(AP) ? China will launch three astronauts this month to dock with an orbiting experimental module, and the crew might include its first female space traveler, a government news agency said Saturday.

A rocket carrying the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft was moved to a launch pad in China's desert northwest on Saturday for the mid-June flight, the Xinhua News Agency said, citing an space program spokesman.

The three-member crew will dock with and live in the Tiangong 1 orbital module launched last year, Xinhua said. The government has not said how long the mission will last.

Xinhua cited Niu Hongguang, deputy commander in chief of the manned space program, as saying the crew "might include female astronauts."

The government said in 2010 that two female air force pilots had joined the astronaut program but has disclosed no other details.

China's space program has made steady progress since a 2003 launch that made it only the third nation to put a man in space on its own. Two more manned missions have followed, one including a space walk.

China completed its first space rendezvous in November when the unmanned Shenzhou 8 docked with the Tiangong 1 by remote control. Tiangong 1 was launched on Sept. 29.

Over the next few days, scientists will test the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft, the Long March 2F rocket and ground systems, Xinhua said, citing the spokesman.

During the flight, one crew member will remain aboard the Shenzhou 9 "as a precautionary measure in case of emergency" while the others enter Tiangong 1, Xinhua said.

China has scheduled two space docking missions for this year and plans to complete a manned space station around 2020 to replace Tiangong 1. At about 60 tons, the Chinese station will be considerably smaller than the 16-nation International Space Station.

Beijing launched its independent space station program after being turned away from the International Space Station, largely due to U.S. objections. Washington is wary of the Chinese program's military links and of sharing technology with an economic and political rival.

Guide To Buying Electronics Online With Coupons And Other Deals ...

Buying electronics can be expensive, particularly when you?re shopping for high end items like stereo systems, televisions or computers. Comparing prices can help you narrow your selection down to the more reasonably priced items, but you?ll often find your biggest savings by shopping online rather than in stores.

Advantages of Shopping For Electronics Online

You?ll have a much larger selection to choose from if you shop online instead of going from store to store. This gives you the luxury of saving money on the exact item you want instead of making do with whatever is available in a local store. You can also quickly compare prices from one store to another without having to leave the comfort of your home. You?ll love shopping for electronics in your pajamas instead of driving all over town. Not having to cram an oversized box into your car or arrange to borrow a friend?s truck is also nice.

Online coupons can give you some impressive savings when you?re shopping for electronics. Many web retailers offer special coupons that aren?t available in the mail, at their bricks and mortar stores, or in the newspaper. since these coupons are usually exclusive to internet shopping, they are an excellent way to pick up extra savings on a major purchase. An online coupon for 10% off can save you quite a bit if you?re buying an expensive item, and you?ll save time and money not having to drive around town as well.

Internet product reviews are extremely helpful when you?re shopping for these products. Many retailers include reviews from their customers with product descriptions. You can quickly see how popular a product is, the pros and cons of the product, and even what concerns others have had about a product. There are also independent consumer product review sites that focus strictly on providing reviews on everything from bath towels to computers. Checking out these reviews will help you assess whether a particular item will meet your needs. Some consumers even post links to online coupons or discount codes that can save you additional money in their reviews.

Tips For Electronics Shopping Online

Take the time to do some serious comparison shopping. Check out several sites that offer electronics and compare prices, features, styles, and delivery dates. Don?t forget to check on shipping costs and other possible fees that can make a difference in the overall cost. if two stores offer the same flat panel television at the same price, be sure to check for any additional fees, such as assembly or handling costs and compare those as well.

When you?re comparing items from one online site to another, make sure you aren?t comparing apples to oranges. get the model number for the equipment you?re considering and use it in a search engine to ensure you?re comparing the prices of identical electronics from merchant to merchant. For instance, searching for a 52 plasma television with the specific brand and model number will give you more accurate results than simply searching by the brand name. most manufacturers carry several models at any given time.

Take advantage of online coupons for the best price. the internet is a treasure trove of special coupons and discount codes you can use when you?re paying for electronics at an internet merchant site. Some of the most popular offerings are dollars off, percentages off, free warranties, free shipping, and free upgrades. Try stacking offers as well ? some merchants will let you use multiple coupons to optimize your savings.

You can find electronics coupons on major retailer websites, through coupon discount sites, and through online payment services. Be sure to check all three, because the coupons are rarely the same from location to location. With these particular purchases, free shipping is an especially good deal because most of these items are bulky, require extra packaging, or both.

How to Buy Electronics Online Safely

When you?re purchasing electronics, it?s best to stick with reputable retailers. Look for names you recognize and trust. although you hope your purchase will work flawlessly, there?s always the chance you?ll have a problem and need to return the item. Buying from a merchant that has available online customer service, a good return policy, and a proven reputation will make any repairs needed much simpler.

Be sure the check-out is secure. when you reach the payment page, there should be a small icon that looks like a padlock in your navigation bar. This is the symbol for a secured site; if it isn?t there, be wary. to obtain even higher security, pay for your electronics through a third party site. these will keep your information safe and will often offer special savings on items purchased using their system.
